Reflect on a time when you paused to appreciate the beauty of nature, much like the speaker in "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening." Where were you, what did you notice, and how did that moment of stillness make you feel or change your perspective?

Prompt response:  I remember a time when I paused to appreciate the beauty of nature. A few months ago, I went to this park in South Carolina to hike. As I approached a waterfall, I paused, and I appreciated the beauty of the nature. The moment of stillness made me fond of the nature surrounding the waterfall. Summary:  Today, we worked on a one-pager for Robert Frost's poetry. Reflection:  I learned that expressing things on a one-pager can help me make sure I know the content. I will use the knowledge to be able to make more one-pagers.

In the poem, the speaker and his neighbor meet each year to repair a wall. Describe a time when you had to set or respect a boundary with a friend, family member, or classmate. How did it help or hurt your connection with that person?

Prompt response:  A few years ago, there was a time I had to respect a boundary. One time, there was this girl that I liked, and I didn't set enough boundaries. Eventually, I got on her nerves, and she asked if I can respect her boundaries. Summary:  Today, we did a CommonLit assignment. Reflection:  I learned that there are boundaries which should continue to be respected. This affected my knowledge because I know now that boundaries are important.

Both poems by Robert Frost explore the passage of time and life's changing moments. Write about a time when something in your life changed more quickly than you expected. How does this experience connect to Frost's idea that "Nothing gold can stay"?

Prompt response:  I remember a time when something in my life changed more quickly than I expected. When I started middle school, everything started to feel like it's over with quickly. That also meant that my time in each year of school felt like it went quicker than what I expect. This experience connects to Frost's idea as everything will eventually change, just like what I mentioned as my example. Summary:  Today, we did another vocabulary lesson. Reflection:  I learned some new vocabulary words. I might use the words that I learned sometime later in my speaking and writing.

As we think about our upcoming Vocabulary Monday, tell me what is your favorite word RIGHT NOW? Why is it your favorite word and how often do you use it?

Prompt response:  My favorite word, right now, is "love". It is my favorite word because it is what I desire, like many other boys my age. However, I use the word only occasionally. Summary:  Today, we continued on our presentations. Reflection:  I learned that sometimes we should think back to our old memories. This affected my knowledge by cherishing more about the past.

10/23: In “Birches,” Robert Frost celebrates imagination as a way to escape life’s difficulties and reconnect with innocence. The speaker wishes to “get away from earth awhile” but also understands that he must eventually return to reality. Think about the role of imagination in your own life. How does imagination help you cope with challenges, boredom, or stress?

Prompt response:  I use my imagination a lot to help with boredom. However, I often imagine too much. Summary:  Today, we read "Birches". Reflection:  I better comprehended the story so that I could do well on a quiz about this story.

After reading “Out, Out—” by Robert Frost, reflect on a time when you faced a dangerous or high-pressure situation that demanded your complete focus. What made the situation risky, and how did your concentration affect the outcome?

Prompt response:  Once, I had so many missing assignments to do the day before the last day of school. It demanded my complete focus, so I concentrated. And I got all of them done. Summary:  Today, we read "Out, Out-". Reflection:  I better comprehended the story so that I could do well on a quiz about this story.

Write about what you did over the Fall Break.

Prompt response:  I had a very fun fall break! I went to the nation's capital, Washington, D.C. While I was there, I went to visit some important places. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see a lot because of the ongoing government shutdown. But, I still had a fun fall break! Summary:  Today, we did another vocabulary lesson. Reflection:  I learned some new vocabulary words. I might use the words that I learned sometime later in my speaking and writing.

How do you find time to enjoy your day, even when you have a lot going on? Write about at least three specific things you do to enjoy small moments throughout your day.

Prompt response:  Even if I have a lot going on, I find time to enjoy my day. One thing I do is text my friends. Another is doing fun things with my family. Finally, I also enjoy watching football. I might use this knowledge to easily create more argument paragraphs.

Describe a time when someone’s words had a lasting impact on you.

Prompt response:  There was a time when someone's words had a lasting impact on me. There was this teacher that I had two years ago that once said, "You didn't wake up today to be mediocre." It had a lasting impact as it motivated me to not be just mediocre. Summary:  Today, we continued on writing an argument paragraph on "Ambush" by Tim Obrien, as well as we learned about formal and informal language. Reflection:  I learned how to make an argument paragraph. I might use this knowledge to easily create more argument paragraphs.

Write about a moment when you had to step out of your comfort zone.

Prompt response:  There was one time I had to step out of my comfort zone. Last summer, I went to Ireland. I would consider that "stepping out of my comfort zone" because the act of travelling out of this country was a new experience that I never had before. Summary:  Today, we started on a Writable assignment about a story called "Ambush" by Tim Obrien. Reflection:  I learned how to make an argument paragraph. I might use this knowledge to easily create more argument paragraphs.

Write about a dream that felt real.

Prompt response:  I once had a dream that felt real. A few years ago, I had a dream that I was with the girl of my dreams. Reflection:  I learned some new vocabulary words. I might use the words that I learned sometime later in my speaking and writing.

Write about something you've always been curious about.

Prompt response:  I remember one thing I've always been curious about. When I was young, I've always been curious about how things work. Sometimes, I would take things apart and see for myself. Summary:  Today, we worked on argument paragraphs. Reflection:  I learned how to make an argument paragraph. I might use this knowledge to easily create more argument paragraphs.

Write about the best gift you have received. (10/2)

Prompt response:  The best gift I have ever received was a Nintendo Switch for my birthday in 2018. It was so fun playing on it back then. It kept me entertained for many years. Summary:  Today, we worked on our cultural identity masks. Reflection:  I learned that presenting our cultural identity masks can help us learn one another. Knowing more about each other can help us talk about more things.
